A flower in time
This artwork explores the ephemeral floral landscape of Bahrain through the traditional Japanese technique of Tataki Zome, where the natural pigments of flowers and leaves are transferred onto fabric through the act of pounding.
The process began with raw, untreated cotton fabric sourced from the alleys of Manama Souq. After washing and preparing the fabric, flowers were collected from the garden of Al Riwaq Art Space on a beautiful Tuesday morning in February, capturing a fleeting moment of a particular season and place.
The flowers were preserved overnight, then arranged on the cotton surface to absorb their excess moisture before their colours and forms were released through the rhythmic process of pounding.
The artwork becomes a record of a fleeting encounter, preserving the memory of the garden, the season, and the flowers that once bloomed there.
